Definition: |
- The number of enterprises sharing data electronically with suppliers or customers within the supply chain. It involves sharing business information without the need for manual input or paper documentation. This makes it possible, for example, to issue and pay invoices, to plan or adjust the production process in real time based on orders received, and to inform about picking, shipping or delivery dates for products ordered. For example, in a retail store, inventory is tracked in real time and data is automatically updated whenever goods move. Automated low stock alerts are also used, for example. Information and data can be shared e.g. via electronic data interchange (EDI), ERP or SCM system, websites or apps or extranet. This does not include sending e-mails not suitable for automated processing or manually typed.
