Item: 1 - Definition of classification

Item's explanatory note:Vysvětlivka k položce:

Classification is a hierarchical arrangement of certain economic, social, or demographic phenomena or processes. It follows the relationships of phenomena and processes from general to specific ones. The phenomena and processes are arranged and broken down in classifications usually to sections, divisions, groups, and classes. A higher level of the structure always breaks down into more detailed lower levels; there exists a logical hierarchy of individual levels of a classification.

Statistical classifications are part of the statistical information system; they are regularly updated in accordance with international standards.

All valid statistical classifications issued in the Collection of Laws of the Czech Republic in the form of a communication are binding for the bodies of the State Statistical Service as well as for reporting units providing data for statistical surveys carried out by the State Statistical Service.
